Karl Seglem with Eple Trio
The tenor sax player Karl Seglem has been central in Norwegian jazz for many years, working over a wide musical range with a great desire for exploring and experimenting. This has led him to present us with musical combinations and soundscapes that have challenged our ideas about genre. In recent years he has moved in the zones between folk music, jazz and electronics, more often on (vet ikke hva bukkehorn heter) than on his sax.
In May 2009, Karl Seglem released his 25th album, a pure and simple jazz album called Norskjazz.no where he offers melodious and melancholy jazz in a classical and traditional jazz quartet format, in collaboration with Eple trio.
In this context, he offers something else, having put his horn aside and concentrating on the sax. For years he has dreamed of producing an accoustic album with a quartet. The young Eple Trio seems perfect, in our view. Like Karl Seglem Quartet, they have created an album and a project that may bring to mind Jan Garbarek's musical landscape of the '70s and '80s.
